3 Day Training Walk

With our official team training getting started soon now is the time to think about what we will be wearing. Shoes and socks are one of the most important tools of the 3 Day. I loved the new model of New Balance shoes I bought before last years walk and I am looking to get another pair again this year.

Susan G. Komen 3-Day For The Cure will be holding a clinic “The Right Shoes for 60 Miles”at the Running Store in Temecula on Saturday April 24th from 9am-10am. This will be a great opportunity to check out new shoes for this year as well as receive 15% when I bring in my donation form.

Training Walk for the Breast Cancer 3 Day

Posted by admin | Training | Sunday 30 August 2009 9:55 am

Meeting new friends and teammates while training for the Breast Cancer 3 Day. Saturday I lead a Training Walk for the San Diego 3 Day, three of my five team members joined me (the other two live out of state) along with another 3 Day walker we had met at a getting started meeting. We come to find out the other walkers team members had backed out of the walk which made her teamless so we invited her to join our team and she is now going to be on our team.

Then about 8am we come across a women walking by herself with a 3 Day shirt on, so we ask are you walking the 3 Day and yes she is and without a team. So we invite her to join us as well. Great news we are now a team of 7, maybe 8 when last year we were only a team of 2.

We are all excited to walk this year. I am having another training walk on next Saturday visit my training walk page if you would like to join us. http://www.the3day.org/goto/walkch.

Two of our team member myself and Jauni are also excited to go Crew on the San Francisco Breast Cancer 3 Day. We will be there in October to support the San Francisco walkers as they walk for 3 Days in their journey to end this dreaded disease. Together we can all make a difference.

Training for the 3 Day while on Vacation

Posted by admin | Training | Monday 20 July 2009 8:45 am

The Breast Cancer 3 Day is a 6o mile walk spread out over 3 days. It takes a lot of training to get your body and especially your feet ready to tackle such a goal. I have walked in the 3 Day two previous years as well as walked in the Avon 2 Day. Every year it is a struggle to find time to do the long training walks that are beneficial in training.

This year I incorporated training into my family vacation. The family and I went to Yosemite for a week of camping. We had a great time viewing the sites and incorporated a lot of hiking into our schedule. Over all in 5 days I walked 30 miles, with one long 14 mile hike to Yosemite Falls on July 1st which happened to be my 6 year anniversary as a breast cancer survivor. It was great to be able to accomplish such a great hike when 6 years before I was getting ready for another surgery and to start my chemo treatment. As I look back walking 14 miles in one day was much easier mentally and physically than my chemo treatments. As I said at the end of my 3 Day walk in 2007, I would rather walk 60miles in 3 Days again than go through chemo again.

So to all you 3 Day walkers out there that are struggling to find time to walk while on vacation, take a hike. If you are vacationing at the beach, take a walk along the surf, if you are vacationing in New York, take a walk through Central Park. There is always a place to walk while on vacation take a look around and find a great training walk location while on your next vacation. Good luck training.

3 Day Walk Training Tip

Posted by admin | Training | Monday 20 April 2009 8:57 pm

Today’s training walk tip.

Speaking from experience here is a tip I would like to share from my training walk this morning.

While walking through a residential neighborhood watch for cars or in my case SUVs backing out of driveways. I dodged three this morning.

Hope everyone has safe training walks.
